Spookfontein is a boutique wine estate in the Hemel and Aarde Valley – neighbouring the coastal town and whale watching capital of Hermanus. The name ‘Spook’ – Dutch for “ghost” – derives from the myth that one can discern a “spirit” within the swirls of the flowing spring.

Built out of natural stone from the local surrounds and located at the foot of a mountain, you will find Spookfontein Restaurant and Winery, overlooking the picturesque Upper Hemel-en-Aarde valley.

Wine lovers can sit in the adjacent restaurant overlooking breath taking scenery or stand at our tasting bar for a more interactive experience.

The curvy architecture opening to big views and interesting seating nooks offer whimsical spots to sit, enjoy our wine and embrace the vista.

WINE TASTING

Tasting fee is R35 per person with a selection of 4 wines. Waived on an individual basis upon purchasing wine over R100.

SPOOKFONTEIN MERLOT ROSÉ 2018

This Merlot Rose shows attractive mandarin, cherry and berry aromas on the nose. A well balanced palate with crispy acidity leads to an array of savoury notes with a slightly waxy texture and a harmonious finish.

SPOOKFONTEIN SAUVIGNON BLANC 2018

A well-balanced array of green aromas. This wine abounds with layers of creamy minerality on the finish.

SPOOKFONTEIN PINOT NOIR 2016

The nose abounds with cranberry, cherry, raspberries and autumnal undergrowth, while the lean palate is balanced with a lingering minerality.

SPOOKFONTEIN MERLOT 2016

Freshness tied to ripe cassis, red and dark fruit with a floral lift. Undertones of blackberry and woody herbs.

SPOOKFONTEIN CABERNET FRANC 2016

Ripe raspberries, currents and pepper spice on the nose, which follows through on the palate. Matured in French Oak barrels for 15 months.

SPOOKFONTEIN PHANTOM 2017

Sophisticated and harmonious, this blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc shows aromas of dark cherry, black peppers and dried tobacco leaves. Subtle integrated oak spice and silky tannins add to this mouth filling wine.
