Hamm & Uys Eatery – Tradition with a twist

Welcome to Hamm & Uys Eatery in Stellenbosch!

Situated in the historic Blaauwklippen Wine Estate, we were fortunate to be part of the grand opening of the new restaurant Hamm & Uys Eatery – led by the talented and well-recognised team at Slippery Spoon Kitchen – Creative Food for Creative Events.

Johnny Hamman and Marius Uys met on the set of the second season of reality cooking show Kokkedoor. The restaurant focuses on South African heritage food with a modern flair and twist. The type of food you grew up with.

No matter where you are from, food has an interesting way of taking your hand and guiding you on a stroll down memory lane. It often even provides the comforting, sweet taste of home.

With indoor and outdoor seating, the restaurant greets you with a modern, country style in a relaxed dining atmosphere.

We started our afternoon off with a glass of Blaauwklippen MCC Brut 2017. This was made with 100% Zinfandel. Lush redcurrant & strawberry notes with creamy mascarpone & brioche on the nose & palate. Mineral acidity leads to lingering mousse & finish.

Together with the MCC we enjoyed an appetizer plate of homemade butter, preservatives and pâtés to add to freshly baked Mosbolletjie bread and vetkoek.

Who doesn’t love mussels with creamy white wine sauce? It’s the ultimate indulgence.

BLAAUWKLIPPEN WHITE ZINFANDEL 2018
Blush peach & lemon-lavender notes combine with hints of orange blossom and cookies-&-cream to create an interesting yet fresh nose. A plush, rich mineral texture on the palate is complimented by fresh zesty acidity and ends in a lingering aromatic finish.

BLAAUWKLIPPEN RED ZINFANDEL 2017
Fresh cranberry with rich plum and sour cherry notes are complemented with hints of cinnamon and dark chocolate. The palate’s creamy texture is supported by velvety tannins and leads to a fresh, lingering finish.
