Pulling a cork on a bottle of the flagship red blend, Vriesenhof Kallista 2016, will evoke a feeling of luxury on any special occasion this festive season, be it Christmas or New Year.
Spoil a friend or loved one with a gift of this premium wine from the acclaimed Vriesenhof Wine Estate in Stellenbosch.
The Kallista is a Bordeaux style blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, matured in French oak for 24 months.
“We want our consumers to have an experience with Vriesenhof that enchants them – it could be as simple as sharing a glass of Kallista with a serious wine collector, or being introduced to the wine by a friend. The pleasure and the privilege are both present,” says Vriesenhof winemaker Nicky Claasens.“
At Vriesenhof the vineyards represent the wines which follow the philosophy that “the winemaker is a humble servant of nature”.
According to Tim Atkin, British Master of Wine in his SA Report 2019, the Vriesenhof Kallista “is a well – made, appealingly traditional Stellenbosch blend of more or less equal amounts of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot: scented, savoury, leafy and with toasty 30% new wood.”
The wine shows red fruit, pencil lead and leather, with an undercurrent of tobacco leaf on the nose, and on the palate has red fruit and black pepper – creamy and balanced with a lingering finish. Ideal to drink now, or cellar for up to seven years.
The Vriesenhof Kallista is available nationwide from Makro and Checkers Liquor Shops at a recommended retail price of R325.
