With the news from the Presidency that wine sales were allowed to resume from 1 June, this was great news for most of us whose supplies were looking a bit sad. Wines wanting pride of place in your collection is none other than Middelvlei’s Rooster range.
Perfect for everyday enjoyment in a convenient screw cap top, the range comprises a Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Shiraz.
Although ideally suited to the warmer months, the Rooster Rosé 2019 is actually pure pleasure whatever the season. Made from 100% Cinsaut grapes, the fruit was sourced from only the best vineyards in the Western Cape. According to winemaker Tinnie Momberg the conditions for the optimum growth and ripening of the grapes from September through to December, were perfect. This has resulted in a superb dry wine with delicate Summer berry and watermelon flavours. Available directly from the Tasting Room at R105 per bottle, the Rooster Rosé is best served chilled.

Tinnie describes the Rooster Sauvignon Blanc 2019 as a crisp fresh wine which presents with a medley of tropical fruit aromas. These flavours pineapple and green melon , which are perfectly balanced with subtle citrus flavours resulting in a zesty lingering aftertaste. A bargain at R90 per bottle from the Tasting Room.
Next in the line-up is the Rooster Merlot 2019, which is best described as being an elegant juicy wine with soft tannins. Concentrated flavours of plums, cherries and dark chocolate with mild oak spice and a soft smooth finish. Available directly from the farm at R90 per bottle, this is a guaranteed crowd pleaser to add to your wine collection.
Last but by no means least is the Rooster Shiraz 2019. A wine which packs a punch of fruitiness and spices. The plum and liquorice aromas, mingled with hints of vanilla, enchant the palate. Another value for money purchase at R90 per bottle directly from the farm.
Should you not be able to get your hands on the 2019 vintage, not to fear as the 2020 vintage will be available soon and is guaranteed to be just as great if not better. Keep an eye on Middelvlei’s website for updates.
As part of their way to give back during the COVID-19 pandemic, Middelvlei Wines will be donating 10% of all online wine purchases to Stellenbosch Unite (a collaborative aid action providing social support to vulnerable community members during the COVID-19 pandemic).
