Elgin Railway Market

Located inside a converted apple warehouse, the Elgin Railway Market is a vibrant place with beautifully crafted metal staircases, detailed archways, railings and ceiling fans, all to suit the steam-train station era.

The stalls offer an array of goodies to indulge in to eat, drink and purchase. There is something for everyone, from curries and pastries to gourmet burgers, pizza and burritos. If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, then you will be in heaven with all the different kinds of fudge, ice cream and chocolates. All the food is on display, making it easier for you to decide what you want to order. They do say after all you eat with your eyes. Quench your thirst with artisanal coffees, outstanding quality Elgin wines or a refreshing gin from L-gin.

Live music and entertainment set the tone and creates an ambiance where people can sit and relax and enjoy what this market has to offer.

There is something nostalgic about a steam train and there is nothing as exciting as the whistle and steam of an arriving steam train. Visitors can view the train on the platform or watch it from the market’s deck overlooking the railway. It’s definitely a bucket list experience to ride in a steam train with Ceres Rail from Cape Town all the way to Elgin and stopping at the Elgin Railway Market.

The Railway Market is an iconic retail destination that offers so much under one roof.
