Stellenbosch Hills unlocks top-tier wines for festive season tastings

Winery toasts the good life with a complimentary glass of MCC

Stellenbosch Hills cranks up the festive season this year, giving visitors to the winery a never-before experience to taste its flagship wines by the glass. And because it’s the time for giving, there are a few extra special surprises thrown into the mix.

From November until the end of February, wine-lovers who sign up for one of the winery’s popular pairing experiences will receive a complimentary glass of its elegant Sense of Place Anna Christina MCC 2019 on arrival. For those who buy three bottles or more of this MCC, there’s a free fancy bottle stopper tossed in that’ll keep your leftover bubbly fresher for longer (and this deal’s available if you buy online too).

Stellenbosch Hills’ pioneering wine pairings have become an annual highlight for visitors to the award-winning region. When first launched, the success of the Polkadraai & Popcorn Pairing was off the charts. Finally, here was a line-up everyone could relate to: four fun, accessible Polkadraai wines teamed up with specially crafted, guzzle-worthy popcorn.

The second option – a biltong and droëwors adventure – has been around for longer and remains an evergreen favourite. It pairs six premium Stellenbosch Hills wines with specially selected cured and dried meats.

As for tastings of the top-tier wines, the rare treat features the winery’s Sense of Place Kastanjeberg wooded Chenin Blanc that hails from a unique single vineyard block, high on slopes facing False Bay; and, Sense of Place Suikerboschrand Cape Blend, that’s named after an endemic shrub of the Cape Floral Kingdom. The range was created for the connoisseur desiring to understand individual vineyard components at the winemakers’ disposal. Sense of Place is only available in limited numbers and the wines will only be released in years that the vineyards show their best. Also included in this impressive line-up is the 2007 vintage of the winery’s 1707 Reserve Red.

The top-tier by-the-glass wine tasting is available at R30 per wine; the Polkadraai & Popcorn Pairing at R55pp; and the Biltong & Wine pairing at R75pp. Each experience takes between 30 and 60 minutes. Note that the exclusive top-tier by-the-glass wine tasting is only available from November until the end of February 2021.
