Olifantsberg Family Vineyards | Elegance in a glass

Olifantsberg Family Vineyards is situated in the Breedekloof Wine Valley overlooking the Brandwacht Mountain Range. It is just over an hour’s drive from Cape Town and home to many award-winning wines.

Olifantsberg is producing wines that reflect their unique location by focussing on hands-on viticulture that yields grapes that demand as little as possible intervention in the cellar.

The unique terroir with its combination of Breede-shale, Renosterveld and sandstone soils, constant winds and elevation, produces concentrated fruit that results in elegant, fresh and age-worthy wines.

Winemakers: Elizma Visser & Ferdi Visser

They have planted varieties on the farm that are best suited for their unique climate and soils. The natural conditions in which these varieties grow ensure that their natural varietal expression is respected. You can taste that in their wines right through from the white wines all the way through their reds. Their wines are hand-crafted and is nothing short of being elegant and sophisticated. It is smooth and well-rounded.

CHENIN BLANC 2018

This wine is delicate with a light lemon colour. You are greeted with crisp aromas of green apples and pineapple that follows through on the palate with elegant and refreshing flavours of tropical fruit. It’s smooth with great acidity and well-rounded.

LARK CHENIN BLANC 2018

This wine has a lot of finesse and one of my favourite wines. It’s a delightful wine with great acidity and well-balanced. Palate is textured with stone fruit, citrus and vanilla notes from the oak with beautiful aromas of citrus and apples. The finish is long yet elegant. A delicious wine that get better with every sip. You might end up finishing the whole bottle!

Our Lark Chenin Blanc is produced from the oldest block of vineyards on the farm. This wine is a tribute to the owners, the Leeuwerik ‘Lark’ family from the Netherlands.

The lark is distinguished among birds for its beautiful song. Larks are found across all eight South African terrestrial biomes and we often see these beautiful birds in our vineyards.

GRENACHE BLANC 2018

Grenache Blanc is a white wine grape that originated in northern Spain from where it spread to France to become the fourth most planted vine in France.

A wine with fresh citrus aromas with lots of green apple and a herbaceous finish. The wine has a fresh but full and smooth mouth feel with a crisp creamy finish.

BLANC 2018

A refreshingly modern take on a classic white blend – Rhône-inspired with Rousanne, Grenache Blanc and Chenin Blanc. Light to pale straw in colour. Beautiful balance between savoury, floral and opulent fruit aromas. Fairly full bodied and richly textured supported by a keen line of acidity. A rich, textured wine with a fine elegant finish.

GRENACHE NOIR 2018

This wine is light red in colour and almost looks like Pinot Noir in the glass. Aromatic and refreshing with red fruits such as red cherry, strawberry, raspberry and red ripe berries and slightly spicy that follows through on the palate for a juicy aftertaste. This wine also shows grippy tannins and is supported by a naturally high acidity making it fresh and delicious.

PINOTAGE 2018

Fresh red berry notes of strawberry and cherries are complimented by hints of spice and earthy notes. Well balanced and so smooth on the palate. It’s a versatile wine that can be enjoyed with food or on its own. This wine is made in a pure fruit-driven style, with supple tannins and reveals a fresh and elegant expression of Pinotage.

SYRAH 2017

Deep red in colour. Aromas filled with dark and red berries on the nose. Structured with aromatic layers of spice and matured silky tannins. Red berries follow through on the palate and finishes off with a smooth lingering sensation. Very smooth, great acidity and well balanced. A refined Syrah that is absolutely sensational.

SILHOUETTE 2016

A spicy and vibrant wine made from varieties traditionally grown in the south of France showing herbal notes with hints of lavender. It is a blend of Syrah, Grenache Noir, Carignan and Mourvedre. It boasts a beautiful bouquet of fruity flavours on the nose such as blackberry and raspberry, herbs and some spice. On the palate, the wine is in a class of its own: spicy, but ripe tannins, a firm structure, beautifully integrated and dosed wood tones and a restrained fruitiness. It showcases a wine thats is balanced, elegant finish with a beautiful perfume smell.
